Photograph the meter
Photograph the electricity or water meter (DEWA, Al Ain, Sharjah, Etihad WE) and the reading comes out as a number, saved with the date, so you see your consumption between readings with an estimated bill by tiers. Useful when splitting a bill with a tenant, watching for a water leak, or checking the reading on your bill.
Estimate with DEWA residential tiers, no extra fees
How to use it
- Photograph the meter display up close without glare (turn off the flash if there's glass).
- Check the reading that appears (you can edit it) and save it.
- With every new reading you get the difference in kWh or gallons and an estimated cost.
Questions
Does it read every meter?
Digital and mechanical electricity, water and gas meters. The red (fraction) digits are ignored, as on the bill. If the photo has glare or a sharp angle it asks you to retake.
Is the bill estimate accurate?
Approximate: it uses DEWA residential tiers for electricity (23/28/32/38 fils) and water (3.5/4.0/4.6 fils per gallon) without fuel surcharge, sewerage and municipality fees. Other emirates have different tariffs; the tool computes consumption exactly and cost as an estimate.
How do I split a bill with a tenant?
Keep a meter or a reading per party, record the reading at the start and end of the month; the difference is their use, and you can export the log.
Are photos kept?
The photo goes to the model to be read and isn't stored; readings and dates stay on your phone only.
