Questions
Is my password sent to you?
No. Its SHA-1 fingerprint is computed on your device and only the first 5 characters of that fingerprint go to Have I Been Pwned, which returns hundreds of fingerprints starting the same way; the match happens on your device. Neither the password nor its full fingerprint ever leaves.
It appeared in a breach — now what?
Change it now in every account that uses it, and never use it again. Turn on two-step verification for important accounts.
What makes a password strong?
Long (16+ characters), random, and different for every account. The easy way: a password manager that remembers them for you.
