Questions

How does it find the meter without vowel marks?

It tries every possible reading of the letters (vowelled or not, long vowels, assimilated «al-») against every meter with its usual variations, and picks the meter that fits with the fewest changes. With several verses the meter is chosen for the whole poem, which is more accurate.

How accurate is it?

On verses of known meter by al-Majidi bin Dhahir, Fatat al-Arab, Salem al-Jamri and Rabi bin Yaqout, the right meter comes first for 13 of 18 single verses and is always in the top three. Nabati is scanned by ear, so if your verse is said differently, pick the meter from the buttons and check its scansion.

What do / and 0 mean?

Arabic prosody marks: «/» a vowelled letter and «0» a still one. For example «mustafʿilun» = /0/0//0.
