Where do the holiday dates come from?
From the public-holiday rules published on the UAE government portal (u.ae): New Year, Eid Al Fitr (1–3 Shawwal, plus 30 Ramadan when the month is complete), Arafat, Eid Al Adha (10–12 Dhu Al Hijjah), Hijri New Year, the Prophet's birthday, and National Day (2–3 December).
Why are the Islamic holidays “estimated”?
They depend on moon sighting and are announced days before. We compute them with the Umm al-Qura calendar, so they can differ by a day. Edit the date or remove the holiday if the announcement differs.
What if a holiday falls on a weekend?
Under the official rules a holiday is not moved to another day when it falls on the weekend.
Is the private sector the same?
Public holidays are the same for both sectors. Weekends differ between companies, so pick yours.
