Colorize old photos
A black-and-white photo of your grandparents, your father, the old house? Upload it and it comes back in colour — skin tones, blue sky, white kandura. Everything runs on your device; the photo never leaves it.
Your file never leaves your device — everything runs in your browser
How to use it
- Upload the photo (for a print, photograph it from above in good light).
- Press «Colorize». The first time it downloads the model (128 MB); after that it stays on your device.
- Compare before and after by dragging, and adjust the colour strength.
- Download, or continue: remove scratches, upscale, or animate it.
Questions
Are the colours right?
The model guesses colours from what things are: skin, sky, palms and a kandura usually come out natural, but it cannot know the colour of a particular dress or car — it is a convincing guess, not a recovery of the original colour.
Why isn't the photo blurred?
Because the photo's detail is never touched: the model only computes colour, which is laid over the original lightness at full resolution.
Is the photo sent anywhere?
No. The model downloads to your device and runs there (DeOldify, MIT). The photo never leaves your browser.
How long does it take?
The first download is 128 MB, once. Colorizing itself takes seconds on the graphics card (WebGPU) and up to a minute on the processor.
Scratches or faded tones?
Colorize here, then press «Remove scratches» under the result and paint over them, or «Upscale» to sharpen — the file moves between tools without uploading.
