Questions
Doesn't WhatsApp strip it anyway?
Photos sent normally are recompressed and lose their data, but «send as file/document», Telegram in file mode, email and messaging send the photo as is, location included. Cloud storage and websites vary — clean it and be sure.
Does it lose quality?
JPG is rewritten at the same size and high quality (95%), a difference the eye can't see. PNG and WebP are saved losslessly. For a smaller file, carry on to the «image size in KB» tool.
What exactly is removed?
All EXIF, XMP and IPTC data: location, date, device and lens, software, the hidden thumbnail and comments. Only the picture remains, with its orientation baked in correctly.
HEIC from an iPhone?
Convert it first with the HEIC to JPG tool, then clean it here — or let the iPhone send «Most compatible» from its settings.
