Password-protect a PDF

Lock a PDF with a password before you send it (AES-256), and choose whether whoever opens it can print or copy. Or the other way: remove the password from your file if you know it. The file never leaves your device.

Your file never leaves your device — everything runs in your browser

What do you need?

How to use it

  1. Pick: lock the file or remove the password.
  2. Drop the file and type the password.
  3. Download the new file. Try opening it before you send it.

Questions

How strong is it?

AES-256 by default, the same as Acrobat. Acrobat, Chrome, Safari, iPhone and Android open it. If the recipient has a very old app, choose “Compatible with old apps” (AES-128).

Can I unlock a file I don't know the password to?

No. The tool removes a password only if you know it. We don't try to crack passwords.

What does blocking printing and copying do?

The file opens with the password as usual, but apps that respect the restrictions won't print it or copy its text. It's a rule for the app, not extra encryption, so don't rely on it alone for secrets.

What if I forget the password?

There's no way to get it back, and we don't have a copy. Keep it somewhere safe before you send the file.
